Bans, Badges & Brennan - Spurs Midweek Catch-Up

It seems like its been quite a while since the sobering home defeat to previously without a League victory Ipswich. Being Tottenham Hotspur though barely a day, let alone a week, can pass without some kind of newsworthy event appearing on social media, Sky Sports News or even in the fast dying old media form, newspapers.

After what feels like a hundred years, the FA finally got around to coming up with Rodrigo Bentancur's punishment for his comments made during an interview in Uruguay, albeit in his eyes 'sarcastically' about Sonny's racial heritage. In their infinite wisdom they decided that seven games would suffice and that the player would need to attend a course to educate him as to why it was wrong to do this in the first place.

Sometimes just saying 'Sorry' isn't enough

Now, he's a 27 year old who's been around professional football all of his adult life. An experienced international who's played in Italy as well as England. He isn't Arnie in The Terminator who's just landed on planet Earth for the first time. He should have known this was at best inappropriate and at worst downright disgusting. I personally feel he's got off quite lightly. Amazingly as I began to write this, the news came through that the club 'whilst accepting his guilt' plan to appeal the length of the ban. This despite the comments being made about our own CLUB CAPTAIN!!

A couple of days ago, I posted this on Twitter or X or whatever its called this week:

This came in response to the release of, completely co-incidentally of course in the run-up to Christmas, yet another 'rebranding' of the Tottenham Hotspur badge.

This event came only a few days after this little nugget of information found its way to the internet:

ENIC, spent less of their own money in 24 years than Sullivan & Brady have in 14.

I expect the club to have some cleverly worded explanation as to why this is necessary and of course the launch is wrapped up in a nostalgic video release including black and white clips of the time when the Spurs owners were interested in winning trophies and it was about 50p to get in the ground, but this move is clearly done to help pile the pressure on already pushed parents whose children naturally want the newest Tottenham gear to wear the same as their heroes. Just like we all did when we were youngsters.

Its unrealistic to expect people, especially without being disrespectful, the plastic fans from abroad not to buy any of this spanking new clobber. Its just the completely cynical nature of it that annoys me.

Anyway regarding things on the pitch because apparently there is still a football team attached to the ENIC business model, its been a decent International break for some of our players. Dane Scarlett scored for the England Under 21s in their 1-1 draw with the Netherlands. Sonny played 64 mins for South Korea in a 3-1 victory against Kuwait, Yves Bissouma played for Mali in a 1-0 win away to Mozambique and then the first half of their 6-0 win against Eswatini. For Wales, Brennan Johnson played virtually the whole game again against Turkey as did Ben Davies. That ended goal less but they also both appeared in the 4-1 win over Iceland with Johnson assisting the first goal and then netting the third. Kulusevski played in both of Swedens wins, the 2-1 victory over Slovakia and the 6-0 thrashing of Azerbaijan when he scored twice and assisted one of Gyokeres four goals. Radu Dragusin did around two thirds of Romania's 4-1 win over Cyprus. Last but not least, Destiny Odogie played the last 7 mins of Italy's 3-1 defeat against France.

Brennan, breaks down the right, smashes ball into far corner.

On the downside, Romero came off injured in Argentina's 2-1 defeat to Paraguay. It looks like that foot again so that has to make him doubtful for Sundays trip to the Etihad.
